Basin Street Properties Achieves Energy Star Premier Member Designation

May 4, 2023 by Kira Porter

Basin Street Properties, a prominent real estate investment, development, and management firm, is pleased to announce 23 buildings received ENERGY STAR Certification across the Sacramento and Reno markets, making Basin Street Properties a Premier Member of ENERGY STAR’S Certification Nation.

“Environmentally friendly and efficient buildings are a priority for Basin Street and our
tenants,” said Elaine Nelson, Director of Property Management for Basin Street
Properties. “The ENERGY STAR Certification fits well with our broader sustainability
efforts including solar power installations, LED lighting upgrades and water usage
reduction strategies.”

To earn the ENERGY STAR, a commercial building must be independently verified to
operate more efficiently than 75% of similar properties nationwide. ENERGY STAR
certified buildings use an average of 35 percent less energy and are responsible for 35
percent less carbon dioxide emissions than typical buildings. That’s important, since
commercial buildings and industrial plants are responsible for nearly half of the nation’s
energy use and nearly half of its greenhouse gas emissions.

Launched in 1992, ENERGY STAR is a voluntary EPA program that delivers
environmental benefits and financial value through superior energy efficiency. Today,
thousands of organizations use ENERGY STAR tools and resources to help them
assess their energy performance, improve their efficiency, and earn recognition. In
2019, the ENERGY STAR program for commercial buildings helped businesses and
organizations save 230 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, avoid $14 billion in energy
costs, and achieve 170 million metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions.

“Demand for efficient and environmentally friendly buildings continues grow with our
tenant base and achieving 23 ENERGY STAR Certifications is something we feel good
about at multiple levels,” said Nelson. “Our sustainability efforts include solar power
installations, LED lighting upgrades, EV charging stations, recycling, HVAC upgrades
and management and water usage reduction strategies. It is rewarding to be recognized
by ENERGY STAR for our efforts.”

The ENGERY STAR Certification continues Basin Street Properties’ commitment to
offer Class A office space that is environmentally friendly. The certifications follow on
60 EV charging station installations in Petaluma and three solar installation projects
implemented in Sacramento, Petaluma and Santa Rosa. Collectively these three solar
projects provide 1,097,230 kW of annual power generation as well as 215 shaded
parking stalls at the Sacramento and Petaluma locations.
