Utility Building Engineer

Job Description Summary

The Building Utility (U2) is a function of the Engineering Department and provides commercial building maintenance services and support for our building operations by performing routine facilities and maintenance tasks. The U2 reports to the Chief Engineer but may receive numerous requests from the Basin Street Properties Management Office. This important position provides the most in-person customer services of the group. Many which are brief in nature. Therefore, it is imperative that this person exemplify professional, efficient, friendly, and courteous service. All building engineer staff are required to consider safety first in all aspects of performing their job, including considering the safety of our tenants. Occasional overtime may be required.

Required Functional Knowledge/Skills

· General cleaning, painting, and repair work as directed

· General plumbing troubleshooting and repair

· General maintenance pressure washing

· Lamps type and application

· General carpentry

· General understanding of power washer equipment

· Hand and power tools

· Communication

Qualifications

· Basic Computer skills required

· Must have a valid driver license along with a clean and safe DMV record

· Adheres to local, state, federal, and environmental codes, and regulations

· Has reliable transportation

· Has excellent customer service skills

· Communicates clearly and in a professional manner

· Must be reliable, punctual

· Maintains a professional appearance

· Will participate in training and educational programs

· Flexible and collaborative work style, able to build strong relationships with team members and coworkers, share knowledge and be willing to learn from others

· Provide friendly and professional tenant services support

· Able to maintain and promote safety practices in all aspects of the position

Education and Experience Requirements

· High school diploma

· 2+ years facilities experience preferred

Work Environment and Physical Demands

· Building maintenance environment, indoor/outdoor, consisting of exposure to moving mechanical parts and seasonal temperature changes ranging from freezing to extreme heat

· May be exposed to high places, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and loud noises

· Vision requirements include both close range and long distance

· Must be able to lift 50lbs

· Must be able to climb ladders and crawl into confined spaces

· Must be able to endure walking, squatting, bending, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crawling, pulling and prolonged standing

· Must be able to use hands to grip power and hand tools

Other Information

· Not a supervisory role

· Full time position, 40 hours/week

· Occasional overtime may be required

· Local travel is expected

· Must legally be allowed to work in the U.S.
